Further evidence has been presented that shows dental sealants are more effective than other treatments in the fight against childhood caries, states an article from the CDA, October 2016.
The American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) have published two reviews that evaluated the effectiveness of dental sealants. These reports break down the outcomes such as the incidence of cavities, how well sealants are retained, and any adverse (negative) side effects. “Sealants are a proven and effective therapy for preventing cavities in children and teens. Oral disease can greatly impact one’s concentration and self-esteem and contributes to more than 51 million hours of missed school each year,” said Wright. He continues, “The joint report confirms that sealants should be a routine part of cavity prevention, as children with sealants are up to 80% less prone to cavities compared to those without them.”
Applying sealants to teeth are easy, comfortable, relatively inexpensive, and covered by dental insurance in most cases. Call Cannon Family Dental today to schedule your appointment: 801-292-3501.
